Air Canada is the official Canadian airline for the symposium. Ask the promotion code to get discount fares at deadwood2011@uqat.ca. In order to take advantage of the discounted fares, event delegates must book their flight at aircanada.com and enter the applicable Promotion Code in the search panel. If the Promotion Code is not entered or is entered incorrectly, the Discounts will not be applied to the booking. The applicable Promotion Code must be recorded on the delegate's ticket by ticketing agencies/airlines.
A limited number of students attending the symposium will have the chance to stay at the research station (double occupancy) of the Lake Duparquet Research and Teaching Forest at a low rate ($40 per person/night). Researchers from over 15 countries have already submitted abstracts for the FIRST INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON DYNAMICS AND ECOLOGICAL SERVICES OF DEADWOOD IN FOREST ECOSYSTEMS to be held in Rouyn-Noranda (Québec, Canada), May 15-19, 2011. As some people learned only recently about this exciting and important event, we have pushed the abstract submission deadline to January 28, 2011.

This excursion will provide a unique opportunity to enjoy and discover Northern Quebec. Participants will travel the 620 km James Bay road from Matagami to the town of Radisson, site of the world's largest underground generating station. Along the way, they will discover black spruce forest and taïga ecosystems of Northern Quebec, large areas affected by forest fires and a number of stops in natural and managed forests where work conducted by Quebec researchers will be discussed. The 3 day excursion also includes a visit of the Eastmain-1-A/Sarcelle/Rupert hydroelectric project and the Robert-Bourassa hydroelectric station. Elders from the Cree nation will meet the participants in the town of Chisasibi and provide an introduction to the Cree way of life.
